The Right Side Up Talent Spotlight series profiles some of our full-time employees and freelance growth marketing consultants. We chatted with them to learn about their incredible professional experiences, expert marketing insights, and how they’re balancing work and life.

Alley Shinder | Growth Marketing Consultant

Alley Shinder is a freelance performance marketer with a background in user acquisition at companies like Coinbase and Microsoft. She’s been consulting with Right Side Up since 2019.

Where is home these days? What is your work environment like?

I relocated from Seattle to Miami in 2021 and work mostly from home here. My work space consists of a standing desk and large curved monitor, but I prefer to camp out on my couch or balcony.

Tell us about your professional background and area(s) of expertise.

The subcategory of growth marketing that I specialize in is called user acquisition (UA). It typically includes paid channel strategy and execution, and is very data-driven and technical. I’ve worked with companies of all sizes from bootstrapped startups to Fortune 50 businesses, in a variety of industries, including mobile gaming, fintech, ecommerce, and blockchain. Right now I’m working with a large, well-known gaming company as the UA lead for one of their key titles. It’s a fantastic product and the team is great. I’m really proud of everything we’ve achieved together.

What excites you about growth marketing?

I think what first attracted me to growth marketing was the healthy mix of qualitative and quantitative components. I enjoy jumping from business intelligence tools like Tableau or Looker, to reviewing ad concepts, attending creative brainstorming sessions, optimizing campaigns in various ad managers, and working with networks on complex strategies. Lifts to performance can come from so many different places—there are almost infinite levers to pull, which really keeps me on my toes and motivates me.

What has the structure/flexibility of Right Side Up’s model allowed you to do outside of work?

Travel is a big part of my life and Right Side Up has connected me with great clients so I don’t have to spend valuable time sourcing business, and can instead focus on the work and enjoy my free time exploring the world.

Now let's get to the fun stuff...

Who would play you in a movie? Why?

I’ve been told that Aubrey Plaza is my celebrity doppelganger. I don’t really see the physical resemblance though ... maybe it's because we’re both brunette and have a dry sense of humor?

What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to? Why?

Definitely Japan! I’ve traveled there many times and it’s easily my favorite place in the world. There’s an endless number of things to do, the food is world class, and the culture is beautiful. I can’t wait to explore it more.
