Our mission
Right Side Up’s mission is simple: to strategically partner with ambitious brands and help them hit their growth goals by connecting them with top-shelf marketers.
For brands, we offer the skills, support, and flexibility needed to achieve growth goals, without being locked into rigid contracts or engagement models.
And when it comes to our talent collective, we work hard to only provide each fractional marketer with opportunities that align with what they’re looking for in terms of responsibilities, rates, and hours.
This dual commitment to both sides of the marketplace is what makes our offering unique.
But the breadth of our services and configurations also often leads to one question:
How does Right Side Up work?
In short, we help brands hit their growth goals by connecting them with A+ marketers, whether it be fractional experts, full-service agency teams, or full-time placements. Every engagement follows a proven process: intake, a tailored solution proposal, talent matching (if a fractional marketer is needed), and ongoing strategic support.
In this article, we’ll provide a step-by-step overview of this process, both for brands seeking marketing expertise and fractional talent looking to join our collective. We’ll dive into the various segments of our business, and reveal how the ✨ marketing magic ✨ happens.
The history of Right Side Up
The year is 2017. Tyler Elliston, a former in-house marketing leader, has finally had enough of working with traditional agencies that all too often prioritized their own interests over client success.
He picks up his iPhone 8 and hits up a small group of experienced marketers who are having the same frustrations. Together they set out to build something better: a model that places equal importance on strategy, talent, and true flexibility.
From those humble roots, Right Side Up turned into a unique platform that has helped brands like DoorDash and Uber by delivering the exact marketing resources they need when they need it—all still guided by Tyler’s original vision.
How Right Side Up works for brands
Every company has unique marketing needs, and Right Side Up’s process is designed to meet them.
Whether you’re an ecommerce brand requiring a full team to overhaul your Amazon strategy or a B2B SaaS seeking to fill gaps with fractional talent during a period of rapid growth, we tailor every engagement to your goals.

To address these complicated and diverse needs, we’ve come up with a flexible, scalable process that we use every time a brand reaches out to us.
Step 1: Intake
So you heard good things about us, or our marketing resonated with you. You send us a message. First of all—thanks, we’re honored! But no time to waste: Our first course of action is to get you on a discovery call with our Project Strategy team. This team is made up of former in-house growth marketers who can truly speak your language.
During that initial consultation, we’ll try to learn everything we need to know about your brand, goals, and marketing challenges to make an informed recommendation.
We’ll discuss things like:
- What outcomes you’re trying to achieve
- How long of an engagement you’re looking for
- How much oversight you want to have
- How quickly you need someone to step in
- What your budget is
Step 2: Solution proposal
Once we have all the information we need, we’ll reconvene as a team and come up with a gameplan. We’ll develop a tailored proposal using our flexible Right Side Up model, and recommend one (or more) of our three engagement types:
- Fractional talent: If temporary and/or part-time resources are the best fit for you, we’ll tap into our collective of pre-vetted senior marketers, which cover whatever skill set you need—at the level you need.
- Full-service agency: If your goals are more complex or scaled and you require agency-level support, we can do that too. Our various in-house teams, which operate like embedded partners, specialize in fields like offline marketing, affiliate, ecommerce marketplaces, creative services, and B2B ads.
- Full-time recruitment: In some cases, the best solution for your team might actually be a new full-time hire. If so, we have a team (all former marketers) dedicated to sourcing, vetting, and matching FTE candidates for you.

Step 3: Talent identification and matching
If the agreed upon solution includes deploying fractional or full-time talent, we then go and locate this talent: the end goal is to ensure you’re matched with an A+ marketer (or several) that can integrate with your team seamlessly.
Depending on what you need, we’ll scour our talent collective and/or use more traditional recruiting means. Then we’ll vet candidates by speaking directly with them. Once we’ve identified some strong fits, we’ll make the intro and let you decide on the final candidate(s).
Step 4: Ongoing partnerships
Once talent is on board, our team remains available for strategic support. For example, if you’ve opted to engage fractional talent, you’ll be introduced to someone from our Client Engagement team, and they’ll check in within a few weeks into your engagement to ensure everything is going smoothly.
And if you’re working with our in-house agency teams, they will conduct regular check-ins and be at your disposal for any questions or strategic sessions.
How Right Side Up works for fractional marketers
For fractional talent looking to join the Right Side Up network and get assignments, we’ve built a better way to work, with a focus on fit and fulfillment. Our goal is to ensure that every opportunity and match we provide is exciting to you.
Step 1: How to join
We’ll review your background and profile, and if we think there’s a potential fit, we’ll spend some time chatting with you to better understand what you’re looking for. We’ll discuss:
- Your areas of expertise
- The types of jobs you’re looking for
- Your bandwidth
- The rate you charge

Step 2: Admission into our collective
After the vetting step, if your background is a good fit for the types of projects we typically service, we’ll add you to our platform. You’ll then be considered for fractional marketing opportunities that align with everything we covered during our initial chat.
Step 3: Project match + client intro
When an opportunity comes in that we think you’re perfect for, we'll reach out to you to see if you’re interested, and if so, set up an intro call with the client. If there’s a mutual fit, we’ll coordinate contracts, get your John Hancock, and you’ll be up and running!
Step 4: Ongoing support
Just as we do for brands that partner with us, we’ll introduce you to our Client Engagement team, who will help you navigate challenges and answer questions as needed.
